Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist
Approximately 14% of American drivers do not have any type of car insurance. Some have insurance, but not enough to cover the losses resulting from an accident. In many cases, it is hard to make a claim against a person with no insurance, because their assets are not sufficient to warrant litigation. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a form of insurance which protects you in the event you are in an accident and the other driver either does not have insurance or does not have enough insurance. Legislation in most states requires insurers who write automobile insurance to offer all of their policyholders protection against uninsured motorists. If you have uninsured motorist coverage, you can make a claim against your insurance to recover damages in case of serious injuries.
