Civil Litigation
When two or more parties find that they cannot resolve a dispute, civil litigation may be necessary. What is civil litigation? It is a lawsuit undertaken by individuals or companies who are seeking to reclaim what is owed to them. The damages can come in the form of money or the modification of some type of conduct. For instance, one can sue for breach of contract if another party fails to live up to the terms of an agreement. In other cases, one asks for a court order to prevent a party from acting in an injurious manner. Importantly, civil litigation does not, as a general rule, involve the criminal justice system - the party that loses the case does not go to jail.
