Construction Law & Liens
Construction law deals with all legal issues relating to the construction process from land acquisition and project financing to post-construction claims settlement. These include such matters as building contracts, bonds and sureties, construction and builders' liens, tendering, and construction claims, which affect all participants in the construction industry, including lenders, financial institutions, architects, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, builders, owners, planners, designers, developers and engineers. They can range in complexity from basic residential work, to large, complex projects such as government projects, high-rise buildings, and power plants.
A lien is sometimes described as the right to retain the lawful possession of the property of another until the owner fulfills a legal duty to the person holding the property, such as the payment of lawful charges for work done on the property.
